Browser Extension
RiotPix Rental Finder - Privacy Policy
What this extension does
RiotPix Rental Finder is a browser extension that shows a small button on movie/TV show pages on IMDb, Letterboxd, TMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, and JustWatch. When you view a supported page, the extension automatically checks the title against RiotPix's real catalog. The button appears only if that check confirms exactly one matching title, and opens that title's exact RiotPix page. If RiotPix doesn't have the title, or the check is inconclusive, no button appears - the extension never guesses or sends you to a generic search page on its own.
What data it reads
- Page title and release year only, from public metadata, and only on the five specific sites listed above (IMDb, Letterboxd, TMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, JustWatch), and only on pages matching a movie/TV title-page URL pattern.
- Specifically, it reads:
application/ld+jsonstructured-data tags, theog:titlemeta tag, and the page's<title>tag - all public metadata the site itself already embeds in the page for search engines and social media previews. - It does not read page content beyond what's needed to find a title and year (no scraping of reviews, comments, ratings, watch history, or any other on-page content).
What data is sent to RiotPix, and when
- Automatically, on every supported page you view (not just when you click the button), the extension sends the extracted movie/show title - and release year, if one was confidently detected - to a RiotPix lookup address (
riotpix.com/api/v1/lookup/title), to check whether that title is available and find its direct page. - This is a plain, unauthenticated request: no login, no account, no cookies, and no identifier tying the request to you beyond what any website request inherently includes over the network (see below).
- Successful lookup results are cached in the browser's short-lived session storage for up to 10 minutes, purely to avoid repeat requests when browsing several titles in a row - this cache is cleared when the browser closes and is never sent anywhere.
What data it does NOT collect
- No personal data beyond ordinary network-request metadata. The extension does not access, collect, or transmit your name, email, browsing history, account information, or any other identifying information. Like any request to any website, the lookup request above is visible to RiotPix's server together with your IP address and standard browser request headers - this is unavoidable, ordinary web traffic behavior, not something this extension adds on top.
- No analytics or tracking. This extension contains no analytics SDKs, telemetry, or tracking pixels of any kind, on top of the one lookup request described above.
What is stored locally
- A single on/off setting (whether the button - and the automatic lookup - is enabled at all), saved via Chrome's built-in
chrome.storage.syncAPI. This is a boolean toggle with no other data attached, and syncs only through your own Google/Chrome account storage - it is not sent to RiotPix or to any server we operate. - A short-lived cache of recent lookup results (see above), stored only in browser memory for the current session.
Permissions explained
activeTab- lets the popup and extension interact with the page you're currently viewing when you invoke the extension.storage- stores the single on/off toggle and the short-lived lookup cache described above.- Host permissions limited to specific title-page paths on
imdb.com,letterboxd.com,themoviedb.org,rottentomatoes.com, andjustwatch.com(to read page metadata), plusriotpix.com/api/*(to make the lookup request described above) - the extension has no access to any other website.
